Pros

You will become an expert dealing with toxic people, this is really the main benefit.

Cons

(1)Attrition games: Please understand that when the attrition game starts, the managers & HR are willing to do anything to ‘crush your soul’ and see you leaving so they can meet the “attrition metric”. They are willing to hurt you and your family. If they know you are going through some personal issues they will take it as a golden opportunity and make it even worse for you so they can meet the attrition number, this should explain many of the horror stories you read about them. Don’t let them play you. (2)Hire to fire: I have seen it when they hire someone that has no related experience to the job, and shortly they put them on the ‘performance improvement plan’. I have seen it when someone fails the interview yet gets hired. I never understood what was going on, but now it all makes sense. (3)Worst Kind of managers: Avoid this place at any cost, especially if you are on a visa or if you have a mortgage to pay. You might change the course of your life because some “managers” want to meet their numbers. They were some of the worst people I have met in my life. You will not work with good managers, they leave as soon as they understand the game, you will be stuck with people who hardly know how to use the computer, but they are experts in crushing employees' souls. (4)Worst kind of HR: Imagine being an HR who works for a company that does all of this to their employees?! You don’t want to deal with them. Leave them alone, they will end up taking ‘mental health breaks’ sooner or later. That’s my sincere advice based on years of working there and years of observing them. Avoid this company, especially AWS Enterprise Support - Canada. Also… avoid the DMS team.

Pros

Amazon is a leader in the cloud. Although other companies are catching up (Google), Amazon has provided a huge opportunity to grow my career. As a TAM, you will learn something new everyday. Each day is a little different from the other. I constantly adjust our focus through the day jumping from customer issues, to leading trainings, to improving the internal teams and business. I work fully remote with a “fairly” flexible schedule. My manager is pretty awesome, but I have heard of some that can be challenging.

Cons

As mentioned, this is a flexible/remote job. However Amazon is always looking to fill that time with other things. This year the goals have been more focused on what you can do for Amazon instead of what you can do for your customers. Perhaps this is due to the layoffs of specialists, but they are expecting TAMs and others to engage in a lot of projects within the business that take up more than the allotted time in the weeks schedule. This can put a strain on people causing me to feel burnout. There is also a lot of pressure to make sure you exceed these goals. You are measured by all TAMs, not just those who are on your same level/experience.
