Pros

Overall, I love the work environment, people and opportunity to help my community. Lots of great personal growth and professional workshops to enhance experience.

Cons

Benefits are not the best. If you are looking to grow in your career you can only go so far and then you have to look outside of the program. But, again, it is still a great place to learn.

Pros

If you get in with a good organization that you're interested in, it could potentially be okay. There are a lot of opportunities that are well written on the website to get people interested

Cons

Pay is horrible; for the number of hours they expect you to work per week it's nearly impossible to have another job as well..unless you don't want to have a life! Also,'trainings' are completely worthless

Pros

It's easy to find a job with AmeriCorps at an organization with good intentions. Living on an AmeriCorps stipend is a great way to learn good budgeting skills, and to gain an appreciation for the challenges facing people in the lower income brackets.

Cons

Many positions are not closely monitored by AmeriCorps. This results in jobs like mine, where I was basically a low-level administrator that could be paid less than minimum wage. If you're thinking about applying for an AmeriCorps position, insist on being able to meet with the person who held your job previously, in a neutral place where they can speak freely.
