A great job if you’re financially set

Pros

Kitchen/editorial employees are intelligent, engaged, and a pleasure to work with. Vacation time and free food from the take-home fridge make the embarrassing pay tolerable for the short term.

Cons

No respect in practice or in pay (particularly for kitchen staff) Workload is very unbalanced and several employees shoulder the majority of the work. I made an effort in my time there to engage my managers and make them aware of these concerns, but I found that there was either no interest in resolving these issues

ATK: A Mixed Bag

Pros

The majority of the employees there are wonderful - kind, collaborative, creative and a joy to be around.

Cons

Leadership (CEO) is fickle , unpredictable and at times downright hostile and even vengeful. Lots of dramatic firings that create a toxic and fearful work environment. I was given advice to "tell him what he wants to hear" and then "do the opposite and hopefully he won't notice." Eek.

Not as great as it seems, especially in editorial departments

Pros

Nice people, creative atmosphere, good time off.

Cons

Editorial staff is treated poorly and paid even worse. Other departments noticeably have it better and are actually paid market rate salaries for Greater Boston. Health insurance is very expensive and not very good, and other benefits are so-so. No transit pass or gym reimbursement. Some departments get to work remotely, others don't. The company truly doesn't believe in management training, so there are a lot of really, really poor managers that don't seem to care about the happiness and health of their employees. Seems like everything is about making the owners and C-level rich.
