      Got to travel to great places around the SouthWest

      Cons

      Management has no idea what they're doing; housing they provide is disgusting and total chaos; they claim to feed you on hitch, but you get 2 slices of packaged meat, and the "fresh" fruit is gone by day 3; everyone has an attitude; they threaten to blacklist you from ever having another government job if you decide to quit before your volunteer time is over

      Pros

      You meet some wonderful, unique people and get to work in very beautiful areas. You may even learn a thing or two about conservation.

      Cons

      The pay is terrible, housing is dangerous if you have anything valuable, and the full time employees never seem to know what is going on.

      Personal growth and lifelong friendships gained.

      Cons

      I did an internship through AmeriCorps. After finishing ACE, I felt like I had not gained experience to help further a career in environmental conservation. More professional development would be helpful.
