Pros

You meet some pretty amazing people along the way.

Cons

ACE and the PCTA treat crew members like cattle. They seem to forget people are volunteering their time for 200 dollars every two weeks. They promote themselves as selfless environmentalists. The truth is it's all about the money for them.

Pros

ACE offers a fast-paced environment with varied work. There are numerous opportunities to travel. Staff welcome innovative approaches to problem solving. Fantastic office locations, flexible work hours.

Cons

Flexible work hours is a positive but the flip-side is that work goes home with you, in that sense the hours can be quite extended, and weekend work common.

Pros

GO work for an organization that cares about you. SIgned up for the PCT 2016 crew and it was a miserable experience. The main goal of the PCT crew is to milk every drop of sweat they can out of you at the lowest possible price. You will be worked to the bone and it is not worth it. If you want to pursue a career in trail work this would help you do that, or sign up for the normal program and that would do the same and be a much more enjoyable experience.

Cons

The PCT crew receives half the pay that normal 900 hr ace CA members receive but works significantly more hours. You will be placed in the deep south of CA in the hot desert. You will not be backcountry camping or anywhere cool on the trail you will be rebuilding the destroyed sections. Do the normal 900 program if you have to but stay away from this.
