      Overall my work experience at AEP has been okay with some highlights, but there's wasted potential at all levels.

      Pros

      Salary, work locations, workplace conveniences and benefits are all above marketplace average for similar level jobs and job titles in central Ohio.

      Cons

      There is a lack of potential for promotions for younger to middle age workers. Yet stale and lazy managers and directors are not removed or held to a standard and expected to perform. That creates a highly frustrating work environment. And if you speak up, you become the problem.

      Good place to work for but declining

      Pros

      decent pay, great benefits (although declining ever since I was employed), moderate work load, good bonus (most years), team work, strong safety training program

      Cons

      conservative views regarding energy needs of the nation and disrespectful to environment, promotions are based on years of service not performance (in one case my work saved several million dollars for the company and all I got in return was an invitation to a appreciate lunch in a regular restaurant)

      A little stifling - very stratified company

      Pros

      Compensation - if the company awards the incentive bonus - is quite high. If a person is interested in nuclear plant operation or maintenance, this is a great place to work. The location - for a nuclear plant - is a strong plus.

      Cons

      The company expects all employees to live for work. Don't let a relative in the hospital interfere with your job. It is often difficult to get vacation time. One might have to work 16 hour days to get a week off. Don’t expect recognition for a job well done.
