Pros
Incredible blue chip company that historically has always made the changes necessary to reinvent itself while consistently maintaining and promoting its core values. Strong levels of integrity throughout the organization. Fairly transparent internal job market, with opportunities to move across countries, functions and lines of business. Great developer of talent, driven by lean staffing levels, which increases exposure and accountability. Genuinely nice people. Warm and fuzzy culture. Very easy to build a long-term career there, and many people historically have.
Cons
Highly consensual approach tends to slow action and decision-making. Building strong internal networks critical to getting things done. Difficult to take risks without executive sponsorship. Performance management process overly time-consuming/bureaucratic and not as meritocratic as it pretends to be. Executive sponsorship critical for a advancement to senior levels. Moving to a GE-style approach to talent management.
