Pros
It is possible to make very good money and for some might be a 9-5 cubicle job.
Cons
You are lied to right out of the gate.... wait excuse me, told half truths. - You are told you work for yourself - Only come into the office twice a week for an hour meeting and 5.5 hours of phone setting (setting your appointments) - The company developed an unique lead generation system that provides you with quality leads (no cold calling) The truth is you DO work for yourself, however you are a 1099 independent contractor who is treated like an employee! Management is ALWAYS down your throat! They tell you they want you to succeed but in reality they don't care about you. They simply want you to make money so they make more money. And while we're talking about money, just know that is the only motivation they will ever give you. SO if making a ton of money is not your 1st priority then you will not last very long. As far as coming in to the office only twice a week - again, another half truth. That is the way it is SUPPOSED to be but what really happens is - if you don't "get set" schedule 7 appointments a day for the next two field days then you have to come in the next morning at 9am to "set". They will also call random agency meetings anytime they feel like it and you will be obligated to attend. And as far as the lead generation system they use, its BS! We are a "For Union By Union" company that provides benefits for union and professional associations. We send the members letters on union letter head stating their benefits have increased and they have to fill out a blue card and send it back if they want access to their benefits (a $2000 - $4000 AD&D policy, Child Safe Kits that no one fills out, and a medical discount card that one member told me saved her nothing.) The truth is these members rarely read the whole letter or the small portion of it that explains that the rep will be showing them additional benefits aka life insurance. Most of the leads only want the free stuff and once you call them to tell them you have to come to their homes to deliver the benefits they get annoyed and tell you forget it. The remainder of the leads (those who pick up the phone at least) will hand up on you, curse you out, give you every excuse in the world not to set an appointment with you. Your warm qualified leads are a big joke! The only way to do well is to find qualified families, that have decent income, have bank accounts (you be surprised at the number of people who don't) and have others in their circle of influence that are just as qualified to refer to you. if not you will have a hard time making money here. Oh and did I mention if you sign up people who are not responsible (overdrawn bank accounts, non sufficient funds, choose a flat screen TV over paying their life insurance premium) you will owe the company back the advance they paid you and now your job will become "baby sitting". you will have to track down people to make sure they put money in their accounts or go get checks or money orders or reinstate policies so you don't lose out on that money and/or owe the company. All in all you work 6 days a week (7 if you could phone setting at home on Sundays) you have no time for friends and if you have a family, say goodbye to your relationship and prepare to have your kids forget what you look like, cause you will only get home after they are in bed. and see them on Saturday evenings and Sundays. Don't walk, RUN AWAY from AIL unless you are young, live at home have no girlfriend or kids and can dedicate the time needed to make 6 figures in this company.
