Pros

potential for full time with a base salary (although full time at a whopping 10 dollars an hour cannot really support a wife and family and harley myself for that matter). If you like commission only, no benefits.. then go for being an insurance agent.. Maybe you'll get lucky.. Most likely not.

Cons

Terrible pay. 10 dollars an hour. No benefits. No payroll department. (My first pay-stub was hand written on the back of a piece of recycled paper). Some of the insurance guys think they are so awesome, when really they are scammers. Some people are ok/nice to be around though. Also we LIE to applicants. We have to use deceiving recruitment tactics to convince people, whether they are a high school drop out, or a phd in biology, that they should come work for us...as an insurance agent... The company is unethical and unprofessional.

Pros

Great people whoa re willing to help. to a point

Cons

-Long hours (60 to 80 a week) for no guarantee pay -manipulative scripts to convince the client to let us give them free benefits, but then pressure them to buy life insurance once in the door. -managers will be annoyed when you want to take a Saturday or Sunday off. expect to work 7 days a week. -they don't correlate "your" area good so you will be spending over 45 minutes to drive to your destination -they expect you to call the same client on the same night over 7 times. which does not end well most of the time with the potential client -sell you into working for them -300$ of your own money just to start the job. and then a month of training with no pay

Pros

Um.. um.. oh, you can make lots of money if you are ok with lying to clients about "delivering union benefits" to get an appointment with them in their home, and then conning them into buying life insurance. I averaged 2k - 3k per week, but after a while I realized that no amount of money would ease my conscious about what i was doing. I can honestly say that some of the managers are great, but after seeing how much they lie and put on an act for clients, you kinda figure that they are just acting for you too.

Cons

100% commision (You are a 1099, NOT an employee). The job is VERY robotic. All of the selling is scripted (you basically have to memorize a huge sales pitch -VERBATUM). Forget thinking for yourself. Long hours - 6 days a week at the office and in the field. You often work as late as 10 or 11pm, and they expect you to spend your day off studying the sales script. Also, they set your schedule for you and micromanage the hell out of the agents. Seriously?? As an independent contractor?! The office environment was a bit too cliquish and immature. Half the job is basically telemarketing in order to even get an appointment. It's not a true "leads based system" as AIL claims.
