Pros

I guess the only good thing is you don’t have to pay for leads, but I would rather pay top dollar for leads that actually KNOW WE ARE HELPING THEM PURCHASE LIFE INSURANCE!! This company is very misleading, the clients have no idea you are meeting with them to try and sell them insurance.

Cons

Misleading clients into thinking they are getting something free only to get the appointment, then when we are finally there we have to try and sell them life insurance. I went on a ride a long when I first started and we had 4 appointments that day. 2 clients never answered the door. We drove so far for one of the appointments (over an hour in a half) just for them to say no. The man was upset because we were “trying to sell him something” his words not mines. He got very defensive and didn’t even want to take the free child kit. He thought he would have to pay it back through his job. It was honestly a waste of time and gas! The second client said they would think about it. The other agent spent an extra 45 minutes try to convince them to buy life insurance but they didn’t seem to care. She kept getting the “let me think about it” objection and they weren’t budging. It was a lot of time wasted for all 4 appointments! I understand you have some good and bad days, but I would much rather spend money on leads that actually know they may be purchasing something when you arrive. Not to mention it is just too much driving for me. Sitting in people’s homes will be a thing of the past. No one wants you in their homes anymore. I finally found a job working from the comforts of my own home, working my own hours, and not having to drive all over the world just for them not to even answer the door. I sign them up right over the phone and they know that they are buying insurance!!

Thank you for your review. We're disappointed that our agent position didn't meet your expectations. This AIL career does require hard work and dedication in order to succeed and is not for everyone. It can be a very rewarding career both financially and personally for the right individual. Good luck and best wishes to you in the future.

Pros

Your managers will let you drink and smoke on the job because they do too.

Cons

This is no different than working for Herbalife or Avon. It’s an MLM sales job, which they will try their hardest to sugarcoat through the application process. Also, do not take this job if you cannot afford to go months without a paycheck. They will not warn you of this either. Once you’ve made it past your unpaid training (which will also run you $300 out of pocket for your insurance license, which I was told I would be reimbursed for and NEVER was), your job is telemarketing to people who absolutely do not want to hear from you and have likely been called dozens of times already by other agents. Between getting yelled at, you will schedule appointments to deliver “no cost benefits” to them. They have no idea you are trying to sell them life insurance until the very end of your presentation, at which that point they will likely become angry because they were under the impression that they were only getting free benefits. Essentially, this job is 90% angry people and 10% tricking dumb people into buying a horrible life insurance policy. If you have any heart or soul, you will not feel comfortable selling policies to these families, as AIL targets low-income, undereducated families who don’t know any better. They will also hire literally anyone, so don’t buy it when they try to make you feel special for getting this job. If you want consistent pay, meaningful work, and reasonable hours, this is NOT the job for you.

Pros

Learning the ropes in the insurance industry.

Cons

The commission structure is criminal. They touted a 10% increase in base advances to distract from the fact that they literally cut bonuses by 100%. They did this as deceptively and deviously possible to pay high level management hugely irresponsible bonuses. This company literally builds wealth for the people at the top upon the bodies of agents they’ve laid waste. You do not matter. Everything is an “excuse” that isn’t writing deals and making management money. There is no structure, no discipline and no Human Resources department. American Income Life is everything you hated about highschool incarnate in business. Expect to spend long hours “grinding” making zero money away from your family. If you don’t make money, you are given no leads the following month in order to “let nature run its course”. They hire you as a 1099 and then dictate your every move. Attendance in the office IS required. Attendance on daily conference calls and meeting IS required. They abuse 1099 employees in such a way that you spend significant time wondering how the IRS hasn’t kicked the doors yet. Management lies at every turn. This company is wildly deceptive. Policies I wrote would regularly disappear from our system. Not only did a client lose the coverage they paid for and any cash value, I lost the commission and renewal commission.
