I can only speak for the Health Solutions Group which employs 100-130 employees at Chicago Headquarters. If you are the kind of person who works hard and actually tries to treat others with human decency, this is not the work environment for you. If you are shark, in it for yourself, greedy, and love to be the loudest voice in the room, by all means, this is your spot.
For much of my time here, things were mostly ok. Not a lot of micro-management or crummy leadership moves. This all changed within the past few years. We were then treated like absolute garbage, our valuable opinions based on years of experience about implementing process changes were met with crickets. We were essentially treated like misbehaving children when we tried to offer insight that would benefit not only ourselves, but our clients. It is clear that all recent big decisions that impacted our team were based on greed, without regard for team morale. Some of these issues are definitely common at a top-heavy corporate setting, but we are talking about the American Medical Association. Reputable organization? I think not. Just another short-sighted, money-hungry, nightmare.
This place did a number on my mental well-being, as it definitely did others. I don't just say this for myself either, plenty of other people who work in this department feel the exact same way. Also, unless you are pals with someone here from a previous role at another organization, don't hold your breath for any upward mobility. This is one big out of touch, old lady club, making boneheaded decisions year after year.
Studies have shown that a lot of people that excel in the corporate world have severe psychological issues that actually helps them succeed, narcissism being one of the main ones. This is totally apparent at the American Medical Association. I worked at KFC in high school and my boss at that gig treated me with more respect and human decency than anyone in a management role at the AMA. That should tell you all you need to know. Do not work here.
