The worst company I have ever worked for

Pros

very good benefits including payments for wellness, 401k match. The base pay is low, but the equity/stock is great, and can keep people there for many years. The company is very successful. Access to good training opportunities.

Cons

This is the most oppressive company I have ever worked. Nobody has autonomy and any decision needs to go through many many layers of approval - the company operates like they have 50,000 employees, while they only less than 3,000 employees. It's not uncommon to find bosses yelling at the employees. Anyone seriously looking to work at American Tower should be very careful to ask the right questions through the interview process. ATC is truly a "big brother" type of company. Hopefully ATC is making changes to address the massive turnover and issues they see.

Pros

Health Reimbursement Coworkers are able to commiserate with you

Cons

Fore warning to candidates interviewing here...this is a job, A job at a company where you are a number...not a career...you serve one purpose and that is to work as hard as possible for as long as possible for your manager. Toxic Culture focused on squeezing employees for as much as they can. Micromanagement. Micromanagement. Micromanagement. Management team is entrenched in "Cliques" of friends who have worked with each other "forever." Political games to undercut people/gain power is the name of the game here. It is expected that employees work nights and weekends to keep up with the overloaded amount of assigned work. Flexibility in my group is non-existent. The amount of time leaders have raised their voices and yelled at employees in meetings is alarming. This type of treatment is rewarded by senior management and viewed as "Driving the Business" Stretch assignments! AKA additional work that you have to squeeze in for no reward or recognition. Any where you hear the term "Work Boyfriend or Work Wife" is an absolute red flag. Everything is policed. Parking. Wifi usage. Badge tracking. Kitchen use. time in and out of the office. active time at computer. lunch. summer hours. I once had a manager who said "The reason Senior Management has offices around the windows is so we can see who is walking rather than working"

Pros

Good benefits and interesting industry.

Cons

You can see from the stock price change over the last 5 years ($193.65 3/18/19 vs $197.3 3/15/24), the increase in value is terrible. Upper mgmt has been there for years, all they do is rearrange the deck chairs every couple of years. So many employees with the historical knowledge have left. They need a LOT of new blood at the top and current mgmt team needs to go. Very top heavy org chart from Director on up. You can't be promoted to Sr. PM (in engineering at least) unless you have employees to manage. How about recognizing that all projects are not the same and the skills needed to manage complex projects warrant recognition.
