Pros

The salary and benefits are excellent. The company claims to be helping people, but it really is interesting in maximizing profit. But then, all companies do this, it is not surprising.

Cons

The work environment is poor, and the opportunity for growth is limited. It is very hard to understand how what you are working on fits in with everything else that is going on. You will be surprised one day to find out that upper management doesn't know or care what you are working on.

Pros

The pay is competitive. Bonuses are appropriate. Benefits are generally very good. All US staff gets paid vacation. Additionally, each US site shuts down twice a year for a week. This is in addition to an individual's vacation time.

Cons

Various key members of IT leadership have changed hands in the last few years. The new leadership is clearly looking to outsource anything that is not nailed down. Opportunities in IT are few and far between. As well, folks working in IT these days will likely be doing on site management of outsourcing partner resources from India.

Pros

Amgen still has good pay and benefits, although over the last 5 years they are slowly eroding. There are still some fantastic, smart and loyal people that work here. Seems to be a strong new product portfolio with lots of exciting molecules to work on.

Cons

It seems of late that Amgen is far too interested in delivering value to shareholders rather than value to patients. The last five years have been filled with programs aimed at reducing operating cost to boost net revenue. It started with LEAN and six sigma, transitioned to contractors and outsourcing and is now at site closures and layoffs. Those fortunate enough to work at, or be relocated to, a site that is staying open do so with a general feeling of instability. Wondering when the ax might fall again. This has led to many overworked employees who are worried and undervalued, trying to do too much with too little. With very little development opportunities.
