Pros

The benefits and compensation packages are good. If you dont mind selling your soul for your company this is the right place for you!

Cons

Management is horrible. Work life balance is non-existent. Not quickly promoted if you are female or over age 40. They seem to be hiring a lot of "former military" folks in upper mangmnt, which is fine but does not mesh well with the culture of the former Amgen staff (I have been there 12 years). People are treated differently in the military than in civilian life and they don't make the distinction. Lots of creepy stuff going on - the rules do not apply the same to all staff members.

Pros

Compensation: salaries and bonuses are generally above industry averages 401K match: Amgen provides up to 10% match on 401K contributions Resources: Usually no problem getting what you need to get the job done Talent: They have recruited some of the best and brightest, but haven't followed through with career development Locations: Research sites in Thousand Oaks, San Francisco, Boston, Seattle and Germany

Cons

The Sr. Management (ED and above) have their own hidden agendas that result in decisions that confuse rather than empower the staff reporting to them Recent change of focus of Sr Management on process rather than progress The research staff is paranoid and not empowered in the decision process

Pros

- Compensation: Free money for the quality of work required - Politics: If you are good at playing politics, you will thrive - Benefits: it frankly beats so many other places when it comes to 401k, health, gym, time off, flex work

Cons

- Politics: Recognition and Rewards are driven by who you know not what you achieve - Little correlation between achievements/contribution and recognition/promotion - Too many bad apples promoted: high positions belong to those who are patient enough; the brightest elements tend to leave, despite the great benefits
