Pros

Beautiful campus and great location (if you never plan to get another job), great pay and benefits (but they are being cut every year)

Cons

1) location: if you decide to leave Amgen, you are almost guaranteed to have to relocate for a new job as the TO location is isolated 2) Layoffs and Amgen's AFP program which is a fancy name for cost cutting and layoffs 3) Unqualified senior management: one does not rise to a leadership position because they have the right skills, background, education or talent, they are promoted because they play the politics game and "fall in line" Example: I am a licensed attorney who was reporting to someone that had a music degree and absolutely no experience in the subject matter.

Pros

Great benefits, good salaries, a "prestige" name in biotech

Cons

Amgen is run like it was taken over by a hedge fund. No corporate culture left whatsoever. They call themselves a "science based company." The products are based on great scientific research but the rest of the company is noticeably lacking in the consideration of science or even intelligence. There is a noticeable dearth of smart people here. They love people with fancy MBA's from elite institutions but they like followers here, innovation is decidedly frowned upon. Sales and marketing have lost almost all connection to any real appreciation of scientific data. Not their fault, senior management has profit as the singular and exclusive goal.
