      Lost its way

      Pros

      Good benefits, good colleagues. The vacation/holiday benefits are really nice. Other benefits used to be really good, but I don't know if they've kept up with industry standards.

      Cons

      The focus on cutting costs has gotten stronger year by year to the point where management is sacrificing the future of the organization for marginal short-term gains. This includes an increasingly conservative and risk-averse attitude towards Discovery Research, where the company is unwilling to spend any money or time on anything that isn't already well-validated and being worked on by other pharma companies. The long-term culture of Amgen has faded away, replaced by a toxic death spiral.

      Pros

      401k and onsite daycare are top notch

      Cons

      It's not what you know but who that matters for your career advancement. No work life balance. The Amgen values are meaningless words. People are afraid to speak up because they don't want to be victims in the inevitable next RIF.

      Is good pay worth harsh treatment?

      Pros

      Pay was some of the best in the industry. Never told something was too expensive in terms of procurement within research

      Cons

      Lots of backstabbing and very gossipy environment. Management seemed to stubborn and micromanaged each employee beyond what is reasonable
