Pros

The science is so promising. The potential for less toxic, yet highly effective immunotherapies is huge, and you can feel the excitement from the whole team. Benefits are also pretty good, the lab staff gets along well/ is eager to lend a hand, and management is serious about safety during COVID times.

Cons

There is definite meeting fatigue. Sometimes it feels like meetings/ presentations happen that don't need to, or could be solved by email. Upper management/ executives attend meetings that are intended as working meetings, which cause them to go long. People are continually interrupted during presentations, side conversations break out, etc. Another thing is hiring. Totally understand the need for a solid executive team, especially when attracting investors. However, there is a huge need for people in the lab to actually do work.

From Angie, Amunix CEO I recognize that it has been a couple of months since you gave this review and do understand the feedback you provided around meeting volume and hiring. I am happy to share that in the last several months, we have been working hard to address both things. We have evaluated our meetings and restructured many of these to have “required” and “optional” attendees, allowing optional attendees more flexibility in balancing busy schedules and competing priorities. We also continue to work on being rigorous in streamlining agendas and staying on track to avoid long meetings. In addition, we are currently hiring for a significant number of lab-based positions to help support workload. While I am sorry that are you not able to see the improvements we are working to make, we appreciate your feedback and wish you the best in your future endeavors -Angie

Pros

Amunix's foundational IP is based on XTEN, a half life extension technology that has multiple advantages over PEGylation but ran into troubled waters when XTENylated growth hormone missed its endpoint in a clinical trial and extending half-life by Fc fusion came off patent. The company survived by reinventing itself as a T-cell engager company and bringing in VC funding and a new CEO. Preclinical POC for their platform is comparable to what other prodrug companies are doing, Amunix has a very talented team of scientists, and they have funding raising chops as evidenced by their recent deal with Roche and Series A raise.

Cons

Management team likes to talk about the importance of culture but does not walk the walk. Some executives interrupt presentations at meetings in a hostile manner, becomes visibly angry if data and timelines do not align with their ambitions, and cycle between hostile outbursts followed my emails of contrition.

From Angie, Amunix CEO: I regret to read this review of your thoughts on our culture. Our ethos of “no egos, no jerks, no politics” is something we take very seriously as we aim for a culture of transparency and accountability. I recall the incident you are referencing in your comments, and would like to respond. As a senior executive, I believe culture does come from the top, so when I act in a way counter to what I aspire to, I hold myself accountable, hence, the public apology to “own” my unacceptable behavior. We have a culture of providing feedback and improving, so I appreciate this feedback as a reminder that I can do better and improve. I am sorry that this incident clouded your experience at Amunix and hope you know that together as a team, Amunix will continue to emphasize transparency, accountability and communication as a baseline for our culture.
