Pros

- Ancestry has a consistent longstanding business model that keeps it buoyant and moving steadily forward. They're the biggest name in online family history and should remain so into the foreseeable future - You personally contribute to a product that triggers deeply personal and emotional moments - Newer management seems to have a firmer backbone and better sense for how to run a company like Ancestry. They're actively trying to fix some longstanding shortcomings to bring it up to 2023 standards. - Compensations is competitive for me. I appreciate and use the unlimited time off. The remote work policy leads to a more healthy work/life balance. - The new CEO comes off as empathetic and approachable. She communicates well and seems to make sound business decisions

Cons

- From my perspective, company culture has felt less family and mission-centric recently. After the Blackstone purchase, several long-tenured senior employees left. Some had been with the company for over 10 years. They were replaced by people who would fit in at just about any top soulless tech company. Every few months, an email goes out that announces a round of firings. Make no mistake: you will be swiftly replaced if senior management feels it's necessary - Ancestry is an old established tech company. Progress can sometimes move slowly and cumbersomely - Plans to address the company's tech and UX debt have been deprioritized indefinitely. Nearly every team now focuses on improving business metrics. Management tolerates the addition of tech and UX debt even though customers commonly cite them as a reason for leaving - Mixed results on the company strategy so far. It's unclear if Ancestry is on a fruitful path forward
