Pros

Nothing about the job was difficult to grasp or understand. It wasn't hard to be a top performer. Pay for management was in-line with other companies.

Cons

Lots of broken promises, very hard to tell where you stand. I worked several years without a singe performance review. They have these 10 guiding principals, but neither "Honesty", "Ethics", nor "integrity" are among them. I don't believe this is an oversight. If you're in management, you have to travel a lot. They consider travel days as time off. NO ONE knows who this company is. Useless on a resume. Add to that, they're deceptive about the company's history on their own web site. A little research indicates that Anderson News, which was started in 1917, located in TN was completely shut down in 2009. Anderson Merchandisers, located in TX was purchased from Wal-Mart in 1994, prior to that it was known as Western Merchandiser. They were only permitted to service Wal-Mart stores through the late 2010s. Two completely different companies with different HQs in different states, but they're misrepresenting them as one strong company with a long history. In this age of game changing start-ups, why be deceptive to make one's company seem older?

Pros

The pay is VERY competitive for the field. I can't deny that. There is some schedule flexibility in terms that they'll say you have 36 hours for this week for all your stores and assignments. For the most part you can distribute those hours between all your stores however you want to maximize travel etc.

Cons

They assign a bevy of activities at all your Walmart stores at the beginning of the week to be completed by the end of the week. Out of desperation and paranoia they have taken on more work than there is man power. They take every project that comes their way without regard to the load on the person in the field. Absolutely NO room for growth. They've stopped giving out year end bonuses. No future in general.

Pros

-Your peers are generally awesome to work with and connect to. -I had several opportunities to travel. -I had a good relationship with my immediate managers.

Cons

I left Anderson last year for a job that only paid marginally better because I finally realized that all of the effort I'd put into developing myself as a manager, all of the time I had spent away from home for the company's benefit, and all the good work I had done to improve things really did not mean much to anyone. My education and training were seen as threatening and the credit for my work was (knowingly) given to and (knowingly) accepted by those that had little, if any, actually role in the creation of said work. I'm glad I had this job. It taught me perseverance. It forced me to realize that you can't lay all of your self-worth at the feet of others' expectations and thoughts. It made me realize that I deserved better, not just as a person but as an employee. Although leaving the Anderson bubble (and seriously, this company definitely operates inside of one) was difficult at first, I have already been promoted within my first year at my new company and my pay has almost doubled in that same amount of time. So once again: thank you, subpar leadership at Anderson Merchandisers, for finally pushing me over the edge enough to get out just in time before my career was ruined. I would not have my current success without you.
