Pros

For the most part, the people you work with in this office are incredibly friendly and respectful. The office decor is nicer than many others and the staff do not appear to be cramped. They have finally begun to get up to speed technologically (provided it doesn't cost them too much).

Cons

It's a bit of a "good old boys" club kind of mentality among the heads of the various agencies and it is extremely political, so watch what you say. What was most frustrating was watching the County promote people (who were unqualified or incapable of handling a supervisory position) just because they've been around for a long while (a "lifer"), and/or they happen to have a friendly relationship with those with hiring authority. When it becomes clear the promotion is ill-suited for that person, he/she will get promoted to a "non-job" where they have no need to interact with anyone (but they are now making big money). The County seems to "clean house" with every 4-yr County Executive election -- but all of the former "lifers" come back. The County is also cheap, cheap, cheap when it comes to paying those who do not have union representation.

Pros

Coworkers are nice and helpful. Management - not so much.

Cons

Worked on the budget in the County Auditor’s office which is not a skill most auditors have. The training for it was very poor - it was basically you getting what was done last year and told to do the same this time around. Had two managers that were very passive aggressive which is not helpful during the stressful, chaotic budget period. Also, work practices are outdated. Told to print out documents for management review when everyone has access to a shared drive. Years old audits are still not complete.
