Pros

Very capable workforce. Very good technology.

Cons

The nature of the CAE industry is that it is maturing, and the only way for a company like ANSYS to grow is to invest heavily in new growth paths. However, in recent years the executive team remains more so fixated on cash flow and operating margin, which isn't necessarily incorrect, yet in this case it's at the expense of developing new products and new sales channels. This has left the company in the position where new growth is difficult. A plateau is basically there. ANSYS is not unique, and other significant CAE firms in the space are falling to acquisition in recent years. Only work for ANSYS in a position that you expect to survive an acquisition, as that's the likely next step for this firm, and it appears that's the senior management team's strategy from their actions if not their statements. Also recognize that if you enter this company in a junior or mid-level position there are few opportunities for advancement beyond mid-level ranks. The company is not growing significantly in terms of organic growth, which is needed for the organization to grow accordingly.

Pros

Most colleagues are very smart, down to earth and always willing to help. Not too much politics on day to day.

Cons

Salary is much lower than average compared to other similar tech companies for the work one does. Ansys should stop comparing salaries to similar companies but instead to similar roles. Job growth is very slow and only Tenure based. Not as easy to move around in the company and this norm isn’t really present so it takes a lot to try and move internally and if you do want to do something different then it’s a step down in salary. Many employees are overworked as Ansys tends to be more lean and they underpay. Over the years transparency from senior management has also reduced. I fear. Ansys might soon suffer in innovation as there isn’t much time to spend on experimental projects. A lot of time gets spent in paperwork and projects are mainly decided by the senior leads and PMs. Lastly Ansys’ parental leaves a lot to desire when compared to other tech companies.

Pros

Can get to do some real interesting development.

Cons

Rules and regulations are slowly strangling innovation. Rally is being used more and more, I don't think I need to say more. Fear of IP being stolen is leading to a more restrictive software development environment. Usual, I guess, treating of an employee who was let go. Blindsided and shown the door immediately. Maybe I'm too old, over 30 years in high tech, but treat professionals professionally.
