Working at Apache is like getting on a new roller coaster every six months. The upper management lacks vision and the result is a reactionary environment where people lose steam sooner or later.

Pros

Some of the people are great! Compensation and benefits are fair. Flat organizational structure in most regions. Established company without much debt.

Cons

Human resources are expendable. Despite being a core value to take care of our most valuable asset, "our people", Apache really does a terrible job of helping people grow in their professional careers. Very little development or cross training for mid career engineers. The Petroleum Engineering rotational development plan is the one developmental bright spot in the company. The ADP, drilling engineering program, is an unorganized joke. Disfunction abounds in multiple layers of the organization. With the recent add on of a technical region in San Antonio the likelihood of straightening out this mess any time soon is not probable.

Pros

Decent pay - not the biggest salaries around, but still, somewhat competitive. Excellent benefits package.

Cons

Staffed very slim - you are expected to work full speed at all times, 1. because it is company philosophy, but also because there isn't enough people around to do everything. Also, although it may just be my manager, everything always seems to be shrouded in secrecy - it is a huge ordeal just to obtain something simple like a copy of the salary ranges for your position and you never know what is going on with the company, staffing changes, etc. until you read about on the front page of the paper

The company HR department has become stingy to the extreme. The management team is very autocratic, top down. There is a distinct lack of consideration for the feelings, desires, needs, wishes of the employees. There will likely be no reward in the end for your loyalty to this company.
