Market Director: Prior to 2014, my experience with AEG and University of Phoenix was overwhelmingly positive.
Pros
Prior to 2014: Purpose - The mission of Apollo Education Group and UOP is one worth fighting for. Pay - Compensation was more than fair. Flexible - I worked from my home office. Development - Extensive training and professional development opportunities. Advancement - Hard work and results earn you advancement opportunities.
Cons
Review Period - 2014: Recently, executive leadership has lost their way. The focus on looking good for investors has resulted in countless layoffs. Cost cutting through headcount is the go-to solution for all the organizations revenue issues. Granted, there are times when reductions in force are appropriate. At the same time, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about a difficult decision like this. Current leadership has chosen the wrong way. This has resulted in an exodus of great people who will likely end up working for the competition. These poor business decisions stem from a lack of business acumen related to the for-profit higher education space. It's important to note that the poor leadership is primarily contained to Apollo, the parent company of University of Phoenix.
