Family atmosphere, use the term "Appalachian Family" Beautiful setting in the Blue Ridge Mountains Great people. Many of the people that work there have a passion for students and the university.

Cons

Lower pay, hard to advance that category. Not great for single professionals - an age gap from 23-35. Cumbersome university processes in trying to make things happen quickly.

Pros

It's a great place to work because as a student, I can choose the hours, as long as they are available. The full-time staff is very helpful, friendly, and great people to talk with. I developed wonderful working relationships with those around me.

Cons

Some managers didn't put in as much work as others- they stood around and talked with employees. The raise for each semester is nice, but I would like to offered more with the amount of effort I put in to being a trusted worker.

Pros

Very friendly and supportive administration and colleagues, though I think this would depend on your department. Classes within the School of Music were wonderful to teach because the students are so great. The School of Music in general is a great place to be employed because of the tight-knit nature of the group.

Cons

Mostly the students, they can be a handful depending on what course you are teaching. If you ever teach classes for non-majors(regardless of field), be prepared to grow thick skin. They must have put something the water - entitlement up the wazoo. As an adjunct music faculty member it can be hard to keep a consistent course load, especially if you're new. Unless you have a tenured position-which, let's be honest, are hard to come by these days-the number of classes you teach can fluctuate semester to semester, and therefore your salary does, as well.
