Pros

-work with very intelligent people -Compensation is a good - if you love Apple and believe in Apple you will do well here

Cons

- management in RE&D is all over the place -absolutely no work life balance - expected to be available at all hours of the day and night, including on vacation - combative company culture - if you don’t believe in the world of Apple it come off as indoctrination -poor onboarding - no defined workflows and for a tech company all the processes are very manual and subject to error - most of management sees themself as flawless while individual contributors flaws are egregious

Pros

A lot of the people you work with are fantastic, such as your direct teammates. If you work on site in Austin, you occasionally would get pop up events, like the bbq cookout contest and beer bashes.

Cons

Trying to communicate with anyone outside your immediate bubble is nearly impossible. Your team manager usually is easy to talk to and get help from, and sometimes area managers can be there, but good luck trying to go anywhere beyond that. Trying to branch out and grow your career is a lot more complicated and difficult than you might expect. Management loves to preach the idea of networking and letting yourself be known, but that idea doesn’t really work when no one ever reaches back out/replies to you. While there are opportunities for rotations and career experiences, they are notoriously difficult to be approved for, especially when you are less than 2-3 years old with Apple. Internal employees don’t get preference when it comes to any role that you could apply to. Even if you just completed a year long rotation and know the job back and forth, they are more likely to hire others off the street for less pay. Pay for this role in particular is not up to par with the industry. They will tell you they base pay on cost of labor, not living. You are unlikely to ever get pay bumps if you move as an at-home specialist/advisor, even if you have significant living expense increase due to where you move. Whenever they have town hall events to talk about the business and ask us questions, it’s nothing but “here’s how much money we made”, “your pay/benefits is competitive”, or “we are looking into it”.

Pros

It's Apple although their benefits are decreasing.

Cons

When I first started, back 10 years ago, the management, senior management, cared more about a holistic approach to managing employees. Today they only care about metrics. I was told every month I had to put 3 employees on notice. They could be a couple non punitive write ups but two had to be documented write ups that I would need to follow up on with more management meeting with said employees and more monitoring. I refused to do this and I wasn't popular with upper management. I came back from a leave after 28 some odd days. They came at me, micromanaged me right out the door. I dont care about being a .10 point off. I'm not writing up someone who had an off month.
