Pros

It is fun and laid back for the most part. Its basically like a bar that happens to serve food. It has alot of energy and because of the low menu prices you meet alot of different kinds, and classes of people. Alot of the guests become regulars and come 3 or 4 times per week, so its like a family. Applebees pays quite well compared to other restaurants. Depending on what franchise you are in it could be a great experience if you are new to thw business, if you are not its a very easy restaurant to operate.

Cons

It can get rowdy depending on the location, the menu changes quite alot. There is alot of turnover because most FOH employees are in college.

Pros

Brand recognition, everyone's familiar with or has an opinion about Applebee's. They offer low priced meals which are guaranteed to bring in traffic.

Cons

Chaos at the local levels. Since being purchased by IHOP all Applebee's are for sale to franchisees to get them off the books and get residual income flowing. As a result at the local levels everything is frozen, no improvements and everything has to be approved by multiple layers. You're working for a company that caters to lower demographics, specifically those making less that $50,000 a year, which brings in rough clientele and brings down morale in the restaurant (no money, no tips) Very little opportunity for advancement within the company, no opportunity beyond operations level

Pros

Co workers were fun to be around. The schedule was very flexible and the tips were great. the relaxed environment made it easier for the day to go buy.

Cons

Customers can be very mean and treat you like you are beneath them. The side work and closing activities could seem tedious especially when you have made plans.Other tasks are kitchen maintance, the fact we make our own salads (I am not hired on as a cook!) and the ever tedious "front and back of house." These people act as shift managers and have to check all the other servers work before they get to leave. I usually stay for several hours cleaning the store and getting everything done (I am not making any money off of tables)
