Pros

I love programming. I program as a hobby outside of work. If this is you, you will probably like working at Applied - The work is really cool with fun tech stacks across the company - People are really nice! I genuinely like all of my coworkers a lot. - Extremely solid business - People are hard-working and intelligent: in previous roles, I felt like if I wanted something done well, I felt like I had to do it myself. Here I'm much more willing to trust other people with important work because the people here are actually good at their jobs. - It's not nearly as bad as the glassdoor reviews make it out to be - This company has an elite sales team so the work you do actually gets used (and makes the company money!)

Cons

- Long-ish hours by tech standards: The workload isn't as bad as glassdoor would have you believe, but the standard is about 50hrs/week of work. I typically work 8:30-6:30ish and rarely work weekends. - Sometimes high pressure around deadlines - High expectations: if you're someone who wants to try to write the minimum amount of code as a software engineer and then move into a no-code management role as soon as possible, this isn't the place for you. People here need to actually be good and coding (this is a good thing!).

Pros

- Get to work closely with cutting edge autonomy stacks all across the world. - Strong business model, lots of growth. - Very technically capable employees. - Technically engaging problems to solve in robotics / autonomy / simulation. The type of work you can really lose yourself in. - Eng-driven culture, not much wasted work / meetings. - Strong performers are given a ton of freedom to decide product direction.

Cons

- People here work very long hours, 50hrs is expected, but I normally have to work 60+ to keep up with peers (who also push code well into the evening). I'm into it at this point in my career as I'm honing my craft like never before, but know what you're getting into. - Burnout can lead to people having meltdowns and leaving on a bad note sometimes. - Startup -> bigger company growing pains.

Pros

- Amazing team of people that work hard, move fast and are very enjoyable to be around - absolutely loved all the teams I've been on - Abundant opportunities and room for growth, especially for folks early in their career - International scope and opportunities to travel for work - Solid execution and top-down transparency on the overall business and key decisions - Impactful products and problems, felt easy to align my values and priorities with the company's mission and values - Great benefits, and generally flexible and understanding when you need to prioritize other parts of life, be it health, family, etc.

Cons

- Workload can be tough to balance, can take some time to learn how to self-regulate and find a sweet spot that works for you - Limited resources, and rapid changes since priorities can change quickly
