Applied Medical takes advantage of the fact that many of the employees are recent graduates. As a result, the pay is much lower than similar positions at different companies. Managers tend to micromanage and are resistant to trying anything else besides "what we have always done". It also seems nearly impossible to move up vertically.

The purpose of the company is to make medical devices cheaper so society can benefit with lower medical costs. With that said, company find ways to cut costs and be cheap. They will not hesitate to cut labor or let people go. In 2013, 6-7 people were let go in nearby cubes; imagine how many people are being let go in the whole company. Reasons to let go someone will never be revealed. The positions of the people whom were let go are technicians, engineers, managers, directors. No one is safe here. You can be doing well and be let go. The company tries to create a public image that it is a great company to work for by not missing a bonus and always hiring. People have speculated that some are let go yearly just so the bonus can be handed out. The company is expanding rapidly in terms of sales, but that will not benefit the employees in any way. Don't expect an annual raise or any raise unless you get promoted to manager (rare chance). They do have something called the "Annual Performance Review", which just means "Good job, keep working!" no rewards what so ever for good performance. Starting pay for a new college grad is so low that it lies on the outside of the salary bell curve provided by Glassdoor. 401k plan is 25 cents to every dollar up to 2% of salary only. Medical and dental plan is HMO, no PPO available. Company holidays are scarce. For new college grads who are thinking of applying, GPD process engineer position entails never ending paperwork and email follow-ups at a fast pace, good luck raking up that experience for your next job. No milling, lathe, or other basic machines for making prototypes. All you get is some old and run-down equipments. However, there is a 3D printer or you have to send a design to the machine shop and wait 3 weeks to get something back. Advice to college students looking for the first job, don't expect too much from this place. The company is not expecting you to stay here more than 2-3 years anyway. This company should be your last option.
