Disorganized and going nowhere

Pros

Some of your coworkers will be friendly. Shame they won’t stay long.

Cons

Do you want to be underpaid and overworked? If yes, this is the perfect place for you. If not, do yourself a favor and stay far, far away. One year is about as long as anyone will stay here before they run. There have been negligible or NO raises for several years, which means you are actually taking a pay cut every year. Ouch, with inflation as high as it is. There is almost no room for career growth and any promotion you may get will often be the title alone, with no added compensation all while managers brag about flashy cars and buying homes far north of half a million dollars. Turnover for engineers is so high that you will be on a team of people who have almost no idea of what they’re supposed to be doing. You will often be assigned tasks that are outside your area that you don’t know how to do. You will also find yourself being told to do the same thing over and over again, and berated when the end result expectedly does not change. You will frequently be told to work late and on weekends. Do you speak Mandarin? No? Then you can expect to attend meetings where you suddenly can no longer participate because everyone is no longer speaking English. You will be an outcast if you are not Chinese or Taiwanese, and the answer to “are they talking about me?” is yes.

Pros

Friendly and hard-working co-workers.

Cons

Biased opinions and discrimination based on cultural background, gender and age are publicly displayed. Female workers have to face sexism from managers. Equal employment opportunity is not truly practiced. Managers are working hard to introduce the Asian “Foxconn” culture into the company. Employees for all job-functions are paid much lower than industry standard. However, they are still “suggested” to work over-time. Employees are always micromanaged and watched over. This method does not favor a positive work environment and loyalty to the company, which explains the high turnover rate. Managers uses the fear factor to improve company performance and put little to no trust in their employees even when their employees are highly qualified and motivated. The company relies on the ongoing availability of desperate international PhD students who need sponsorship. Experienced employees are under-appreciated and not respected. Employee's 401K plan does not exist now because the CEO senses the company's unfavorable performance and wants the employees to pay for it.

Slave Factory!

Business Outlook

Pros

They are always hiring people.

Cons

It is a slave factory, only poor Asians who need a visa support will stay. It’s very lucky for me to finally find another job and be able to leave here. During the past quarter, 3 out of 4 new employees chose to quit, only one stayed for visa problem. Other engineers were trying to find a new job secretly. From the first day I worked here I suffered, I worked from 9 am to 11 pm, the manager assigned a lot of tasks everyday and checked them out suddenly, when he found anyone of these many tasks hasn’t been completed, he will criticize and abuse you fiercely. So engineers had started to learn and delayed every projects and they don’t care for the abuse anymore. The manager parachuted in from Shanghai wants everyone to do overtime, only Americans can say no. Asian engineers in the production department have to work 12-16 hours/day and they are forced to work full day long on Saturdays and sometimes on Sundays. Considering the low wages the company pays for an engineer, the hourly wage is much lower than the technicians’.(less than $13/h). Not to mention the manager just have the credit and took no responsibility for any decisions, he himself wants engineers to make final decisions, if bad things happen, he takes no responsibility at all. What’s worse, the HR leaks the bad reviews to the manager. Everyday is a torture here. God bless my poor colleagues find better jobs.
