Good starting job

Pros

Good as a starting job to be able to land other jobs. You will work on different interesting and challenging projects. Great place to work with, friendly people.

Cons

As a new employee or fresh out of school, you will alway be the victim of not having sufficient work to fill out your timesheet. You will be forced to use your personal leave when there are no tasks to work on even though you are available to work and they will go around and blame you for not having work. Senior people or above have sufficient work that can be done by new employees but they decide to complete it by themselves to fill out thier time sheet and keep others/recently new employees struggling and stressful. Some seniors work on repetitive work and get easy money and don’t want to share the work with new employees.

Pros

"Science for fun and for profit" is the company motto. The variety of projects is impressive and management really cares about you finding a project that you enjoy working on. If you stop enjoying the project you are on, they will work hard to find you a new one. Great work environment. I've never been a part of a company where I liked my coworkers this much. Everyone is eager to help and understanding when problems arise. The benefits package is pretty nice, although I have to be honest in that I don't know how good the benefits are at other companies.

Cons

The pay is not competitive. In fact its very far from the average for my position. There is a large amount of pressure to seek and aquire contracts/projects for the company. It's even a performance report goal/criteria. While that might be appealing to some I find it somewhat off putting. I'd rather do research and make cool software. The company is somewhat old fashioned. There is a large amount of resistance to remote work, even though people go to their separate offices and rarely interact unless you run into then in the bathroom.

Poor management. Lack of recognition.

Pros

Above average retirement benefits, although in most cases you don't actually get to use this money for a long time, especially if this is your first job.

Cons

Management. There is really no benefit in working here long term. Do yourself a favor and look for other opportunities where your work will be appreciated and recognized.
