Pros

Co-workers make the time at Applied bearable

Cons

Like everyone else said extremely low pay. Low raises if any. And most of the positive reviews are from the CEO buddies that he hired when he came into the company who work in the Atlanta office which was built so the CEO and his friends didn't have to relocate to Chicago. The turn over in this place is huge.

Pros

They really know how to give you false hope. The CEO claims you will be able to be compensated for your work but never follows through. Previous submissions were submitted by HR in order to give a boosting to this companies ratings which really makes them greedy for reviews. They are concerned about feedback but they never do anything with it. The CEO does not have lunch with their employees, this is just a ploy to get higher ratings. Notice how they never listed where they work in the company either which raises eyebrows. The few employees that do stick it out and try to make a 'career' out of this place will never get the opportunity to advance. Supervisors and managers really don't do anything on a daily basis so you cant expect them to work on anything with you. The only place you can actually make money is in sales, but you will be selling a product that breaks constantly and also giving customers false hopes. It will not be rewarding.

Cons

The system gets updated with a lack of care by the developers and often times the process is never thought out which makes it fall in the techs lap. Management never sees what is going on and only cares about how they look in a suit on the website. Any recognition is only given to people who are popular instead of all the people putting in the hard work on a daily basis. Support is never given anything but food as a "prize". I have been working here for over 5 years and still haven't been compensated for the years worth of work and dedication you put in to this company. People that have been there longer than I have all bad mouth it but they cant do anything about it. If you work extremely hard no one cares for what you do and if you don't work at all you will get the same benefits as the people who do. The company did continue to grow in profit even though they put a pay freeze on all of their employees saying "It will get better" when it really hasn't. They focus on winning over big companies to make their name look good over their competitors so they can claim the are the leader of their industry, but that's all they are focused on. They don't care about their employees or customers as much as they do on the next upgrade that will cause more problems just so customers can keep their support fees coming. If the system was that good, they wouldn't need to call into support every day on a new problem. Too many people quit and a lot of new people are hired constantly because of their lack of concern with the employees. The people that do quit don't get any benefits because they worked here.

Pros

In a down economy with few job prospects for recent college graduates, this is a place for the desperate to get their feet wet and put something on a resume. The environment is similar to most businesses with interdepartmental drama and length of time to a promotion. In this regard, computer science graduates will gain experience that cannot be achieved in school. This makes for a better businessman, but not a better developer. Developers are given adequate equipment: computers, monitors, up to date software, source control. Developers also gain exposure to a wide range of concepts related to production software: release cycles, source control, database scripting, bug tracking. Developers are given adequate time to complete training and production projects. Very little time is required outside of work hours.

Cons

Senior management does not seem to understand that they are running a software company. The developers are always the smartest people in the room, yet treated like peons. Developers opinions are not valued in meetings. Just nod your head, code whatever terrible feature Design wants, and take a mental note of everything you would do differently in your next job. Developers are also expected to have too much business intelligence and are constantly bombarded with BI questions from different departments. Software developers are not insurance experts. A great deal of time is wasted learning about insurance instead of increasing technical skills. A lot of time is also spent on procedural drivel like time reporting and TPS reports. *** Biggest Con *** and most obvious is sub-standard pay. Starting salaries are a joke, annual raises are meager, promotional raises are still low. Expect 20% below average. Benefits are average.
