Pros

Large company where one can move around from plant to plant in search of new opportunities (note: only for operations personnel) Stabilized the domestic steel industry so we don't have to go through a downsizing every two years (literally, for ten years, our facility went through a downsizing approximately every two years) Good benefits

Cons

Just a number - organization is so large that individuals are lost in the process Very little to no opportunity for career advancement for non-Operations, non-engineering support staff Absolutely no way to affect the salaried bonus based on your job performance - the bonus is based on EBITDA for the entire ArcelorMittal USA - smaller plants can barely budge that number

Pros

close to home full benefits @ full time opportunities for overtime profit sharing after 2yrs f/t VCP

Cons

worst management I ever worked with most supervisors and managers are not skilled in their departments and out of touch if you complain to HR = your days are numbered ratting on your co-workers is strongly encouraged don't trust anyone boring job they love writing you up at every opportunity female supervisors are constantly trying to prove themselves against the men so expect to be harassed just so they can look good to upper management worst equipment I ever operated the garage couldn't fix a unit to last more than 12 hrs one mistake could be your last if you sign up for overtime and a) change your mind even in advance = trouble, b) if you sign up for o/t incorrectly = get written up! show initiative = get written up no respect for previous experience. In fact they will ram that down your throat.

Good Pay, Absolutely Terrible Culture

Pros

Pay is decent. Work is there. IT department is great. Company benefits are good.

Cons

Terrible Culture. Complete lack of transparency. Terrible communication. Extreme amounts of turnover. Executive management has a hands off approach and hired golfers as middle management who dictate with complete disrespect and disregard for the talent and knowledge of their team. I have never seen so many people be unnecessarily disrespected. The people making decisions do not rely on the people who have the knowledge. Production workers are fired if they crash machines even though there are bugs yet to be clearly defined. The politics for the salaried employees is sickening.

Thank you for your feedback. At ArcelorMittal, we value a working environment based on mutual trust and respect for all employees. Our Detroit location, part of ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks division, recently conducted pulse surveys which reflected a favorable culture and high employee engagement. Surveys like this are particularly important in helping us understand and therefore address any issues employees may have so that we can continue to improve our working environments and retain the best talent.
