leadership team believes the only way to demonstrate leadership is through aggression and bullying, belittling people. No appreciation for differing points of view. Lifers haven’t been exposed to true leadership outside the organization and remain clueless as to how to exhibit respect and adult behavior. They have no idea how to practice what they preach, making talent retention a real issue.
Modeling leadership styles from the 80s, mostly trying to impress CEO and other senior leaders that have no need for people and their opinions. They promote feedback, innovation, truth and being direct - up until you actually provide direct feedback - then you’re marked. Very thin skins at the leadership level - surprising.
Recent organizational changes have hurt some pretty big egos by reducing the scope of what they perceived as ‘power’ - lots of trash talking, aggression and backstabbing going on for an organization that promotes honesty and directness. The power plays are sad, silly and inhibiting innovation & productivity due to new siloed structure and fear of speaking up. Reality check needed if they want to grow and prosper.
