Radical running the show

Pros

Lower than average salary but good benefits. First-line employees are usually great.

Cons

Silo work environment with its IT department run by a radical foreigner recently hired by the company to modernize the department. All he wants each week is seeing results without fully understanding the major issues around the company and most of the existing systems. When pressured by upper management, he would run around and demand immediate results from all personnel under him without any clear and reasonable plans and strategy. It's like waiting for a pie in the sky. Everything is done based on the moods of one person and things can change quickly and randomly with his mood swings. Each week there's a detailed report outlining all the projects and activities within the department, but he's either too busy or lazy to read and is always out of touch, and it shows when he starts speaking of projects that he's not quite interested in. It won't matter how hard you work and you abide by all the company rules and regulations, and you follow protocol and proper processes, but if you don't speak his kind of language, you are out. It's pretty obviously he has his own personal agenda, which is not necessary good for the well-being of the company. The management style here is managing by intimidation, and the trend seems to be replacing American employees with cheaper foreign contractors or employees.

Pros

You are left to do your own thing with no supervision

Cons

There is no sense of value or vision for the company. Upper management has been with the firm forever, and they have no interest in changing. They keep doing the same thing they have done for 30 years, and just don't care. Not a place for fresh, talented people.

Non-existent work/life balance

Pros

People are great, well some of them. The base salary is pretty good.

Cons

Morale is low, upper management does not support the work/life balance. They also do not care for the welfare of the employees nor do they show respect for the workforce. The bonus plan is below average for managers and turnover is very high.
