Pros

They are reporting 30% profits for the past 2 years. Clean building.

Cons

Argo is not a good place for someone fresh out of school and here’s why. The technology is from the 80’s, Senior Management is dysfunctional, and it’s true they reuse old technologies and band-aid it continuously. Argo is still a hostel and negative environment. They brought in a new HR team, but improvements are very slow. Senior Management manages the company with the 70s fear factor mentality. I witness office bulling amongst the QA, Development, Delivery and Project Management teams. People leave this company with no job to go to, they simple leave, because of the painful dysfunction. I don’t see this kind of environment as being healthy for our younger people entering into the work force for the first time. They need mentoring and coaching. They are left to flounder, fail and be bullied. The owner Max Martin is not as involved as he once was, he has left the asylum to be run by (6) incompetent, vile, hostel upper management folks. He wants to go to the next level with his company, but he has some hard decision to make, because he will never go to the next level with the senior management he has in place today.

Pros

ARGO has been growing very fast which presents a lot of opportunities for staff with the right skills and attitude. As ARGO is growing they have invested in HR and support functions to put more focus on giving employees benefits and support they need (including a considerable list of training classes). ARGO does a good job in recruiting talented people (rather than settling for warm bodies) and the culture respects people based on knowledge rather than on position / title.

Cons

ARGO has quite a few products that are built on proven but older technology that is in need of updating (the company has initiated a project to build a new architecture layer on .net but it will take time to develop the level of product sophistication necessary to replace existing infrastructure). People staffed in the Richardson office are generally expected to be in the office daily - so if work from home is important to you be sure you are interviewing for a work from home position which exist but are not the norm.

Pros

Exposure to customers, great opportunity to learn about software project management, enterprise software and Microsoft technologies

Cons

Performance review process is very loosely defined, and better off throwing out the entire process than promising employees something that it isnt Technology is very outdated and a huge productivity and motivation killer. For someone who got into software because they love technology, this is a real bitter pill to swallow
