Pros

The people and relationships with your colleagues are the best part of this company.

Cons

In the three plus years I have worked for this company it has gone from being an organization I feel proud to work for to one I want to leave. Article has lost its soul and that’s really too bad because I want them to succeed but don’t believe that the current senior leadership is up to that task. The recent rounds of layoffs haven’t helped matters. It’s death by a thousand cuts without a solid strategy, other than cost savings, to back them up. Company culture has fallen each year since I’ve joined. I’ve gone from feeling excited to going to work to counting down the hours until I can log off. Too many good people, especially women, are leaving as they hit barrier after barrier when trying to solve problems and implement changes / improvements. I would caution women from applying or if you do be warned that your career progression will ultimately hit a ceiling. While not overtly discriminatory, few companies ever are, Article is an old boys club where men are seemingly offered more and diverse opportunities than women. As a people leader I’ve been told by my member of the senior leader team that there will come a time where I should “pick a lane” and focus only on leading one functional area. Strange since this advice doesn’t seem to have been offered to many of the men in management and leadership positions. Instead they are responsible for a diverse and wide range of functions while at times lacking the expertise or background to lead them.

Thank you for sharing your candid feedback, and while we likely see a lot of things differently, I wholeheartedly agree that everyone in the organization wants us to succeed. In order for us to suceed, we need to embrace change and adapt. These changes are hard - we’re maturing as an organization, moving from a fast-paced start-up to a enduring organization. With this comes some growing pains which impacts not just how we work, but our culture. We understand that, for some people, Article may no longer be the right place for them as a result of this, and that is okay. When I look at the data, Article has many successful female leaders across the organization, including at the highest and most influential levels. 45% of the leaders who report directly to either our CEO or COO are female. Our focus has and will continue to be on meritocracy and never based simply on gender quotas. We hire and promote based on performance and expertise. However, data doesn’t always tell the full story, and I’d welcome a conversation to learn more. Jen - Head of People & Culture

Pros

Your coworkers will become your friends, and will be there to support you. This is crucial as Customer Care can be extremely stressful and intense, especially in the current pandemic. Overall, it's easy to talk to most people and people are honest and direct. The salary is competitive, decent benefits package. The company as a whole is a good place to work, but I would steer clear of CC until it is given a chance to action on feedback and turn the ship around. Knowing the commitment of the CEO to having a good work environment and culture, I hope they will be able to get things back on track with a few key changes.

Cons

Since March, Customer Care as a department has changed dramatically. What used to be a vibrant department of people who enjoyed their jobs and enjoyed helping people has started to spiral into a place where people feel isolated and unsupported by upper management, and disconnected from their peers. Working remotely has only increased these feelings. Changes in management has lead to both CC agents and TLs feeling overworked, spread too thin, and not listened or supported by management. I often felt disrespected and condescended to by a recent management hire, and often did not feel the support I needed in order to properly support my own team. Overall, I just want to say that the feelings of frustration and lack of support are not limited to one level of the department. Everyone is feeling the burn, everyone is trying their best, but are not given what they need to be successful.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Our goal is that every aspect of the team experience is remarkable and that people feel comfortable being honest and direct. COVID-19 has challenged us as an organization to adapt to the new reality while maintaining our commitment to our customers. There has been a high level of stress due to COVID-19 and, especially for our frontline employees, the role can be tough. We recognize the exceptional work of the Customer Care team and we’re making extra efforts to show them our appreciation for their dedication. We have gathered feedback from all levels of the Customer Care team, including Team Leads and Agents, about the unique challenges due to COVID-19 and provided a platform for open-ended feedback in order to understand how we can best support employees. We are working to address feelings of isolation and disconnection from teammates. This is something that many industries are facing in light of the pandemic and Article is no exception. As you noted, we are an honest and direct team, and appreciate all feedback. We have shared these comments and suggestions with the Customer Care leadership team. We take feedback seriously and encourage you to email us at hr@article.com with any further thoughts to help us continuously improve. Sonia HR Manager

Pros

- Amazing office space - Fully loaded kitchen - Lots of great people (mixed in with the bad though) - Benefits

Cons

I can't imagine working in a more toxic environment. Interdepartmental feuds, colleagues making other colleagues cry, gossip and work drama like none other. It's actually amazing how Article has done so well in that kind of environment... I think it's because they reward winning at all costs. They'll promote anyone who stomps on someone else if it helps them make money.
