Pros

Interesting company to work for. Decent benefits and pay. Great staff who are very knowledgeable.

Cons

London gets treated different than all the other offices. No expense spared when kitting out the London offices, free treats that other offices don’t get, all celebrations and nights out are always in London but they won’t pay for staff from other offices to attend. IT are treated like second class citizens. The motto ‘One Arup’ seems to apply for everyone else in Arup apart from IT. For example, travel and expenses have been majorly clamped down on in IT. If you have a team spread out across the world or even in the same country you have no chance of meeting up face to face. Teams outside of IT meet up constantly and have socials, don’t expect that in IT though unless you are management then you can travel all you like. Diversity is a hot topic in most organisations now and rightly so. However, again it’s been incorrectly handled. For example, recently when recruiting in IT they would only offer jobs to females. In some cases even employing a female with no experience over a person with years of experience just to meet targets. Recently however things seem to have returned to normal with the best person been selected for a role rather than it being decided by their sex.
