Terrible Company for Software Engineers

Pros

Un-tracked PTO, large corporate benefits (health, dental, 401k, etc).

Cons

Ascend is a typical big acquisition company. Everything is about squeezing the child companies as much as possible to increase the short-term bottom line without regard to the long-term effects upon the software's marketability/functionality. The CTO has an off-shore first policy. All development is moving to a shared resources approach. All projects must go through architectural council, conform to specific technologies, and be beneficial to other business units to get approval. They ignore the subject matter experts. They refuse to back-fill dev positions. The list goes on. Don't work here. It will kill your soul.

Seriously happy!

Pros

I'm allowed to execute. I spend my day getting things done! Technical, complex, multifaceted things that are never ordinary greet me every day. I get to travel, work from home, and spend my time with some of the smartest most talented people I've ever met. Yes, I work long hours, but it's really enjoyable and meaningful to me.

Cons

Bureaucratic inefficiencies exist that could be fixed. However, it's not a show stopper and can generally be resolved by flipping over someones desk. That always fixes things.

Pros

OK Benefits, Remote Friendly, Unlimited Vacation

Cons

The size and number of disconnected business units creates a disorganized and ineffective work environment
