Ascensus is a caring place to work

Pros

Ascensus is a great place to work if you are not afraid of hard work and it's important to you to believe in the services your employer provides to its clients. Ascensus cares about helping people save for retirement, helping employers offer robust retirement plans and helping our partners create a success product.

Cons

The retirement industry has many regulations defined by the DOL and IRS. This makes the business very complex and ongoing training is required. Add in the various partners that Ascensus supports and it makes for a challenging environment.

Pros

This is a good company to work for if you want to break in to the Retirement Industry. It is a fantastic place to work if you want to gain experience and transfer that into a higher paying job elsewhere. They are willing to hire people with no experience and due to the isolated, rural Brainerd, MN location, are often in short supply of well qualified candidates (read, if you impress in the interview and don't demand a lot of money, you will probably be hired). A hungry person can work here and use it as a stepping stone to the next level elsewhere, bottomline.

Cons

1. In certain departments management can appear to be either uncaring or inept, or both. 2. Like any company, if you want to advance, brush up on your brown nosing skills. 3. Pay absolutely sucks. It is way below market value rates, and in the Brainerd location they can get away with it because of a rural location. It often means unqualified people are hired because nobody else applies for a position. 4. Raises here are a joke. There aren't any. Superior performers get 3-4% raises. Remember, the starting pay here absolutely sucks. So you can bust your butt for an entire year, add tremendous value to the company and their reward to you will be a 3-4% pay increase. Lets be clear, according to govt figures, the inflation rate in the past several years is around 3%. You are, in essence, being rewarded for superior work performance by being given a cost of living adjustment. In addition, the benefits aren't anything to brag about. One or two local places accept the vision insurance, and the 401k plan is kind of a joke, considering its a 401k company.

On the right track and getting better each year

Pros

Recent comp adjustments have brought many associates in line to make our salaries competitive. For those in the Bonus pool, the program actually pays you a bonus each year. If annual target is missed, you don't lose your entire Bonus, just a % that corresponds to how much we missed the target by. 401k Match is finally at a good rate (4%). Generous time off and flexibility with schedule

Cons

Health Insurance. High deductible is very high, but this may just be the way health insurance is going. First $2,500 of health costs is totally out of pocket.
