Pros

Some great junior to mid-level staff. Very bright, hard-working, kind.

Cons

Management is terrible, unqualified, stingy, manipulative, and unappreciative. They don't invest in their employees and have a lack of understanding for how much their employees work. Most employees make nothing, work 10+ hour days while upper management make up to 18x as much. It's absurd.

Pros

Glamor and history; truly dedicated, kind, caring staff at the lower and middle management levels

Cons

Insanely high workload for laughable financial compensation. Talented workforce is mostly mismanaged. Extreme pay discrepancies between higher and lower levels of staff in one of the most expensive cities in the country. Terrible healthcare plan. Lack of work-life balance. Management barely communicates.

Futureless Organization Failing in Equity and Inclusion

Pros

Nonprofit with a large international footprint, great coworkers in the trenches.

Cons

Terribly run and financially shaky organization with no path to keeping donors or funding future work. Hired scores of staff in 2022 then laid off much of that same staff in 2023, still hemorrhaging staff now. Salaries are ridiculously low for New York, vast majority are well below six figures annually. 0 black or Hispanic people on staff, and few Asian American staff (almost all staff are white or directly from Asia). 0 sentiment of equity or inclusion of staff who aren't white or Asian (e.g. not even an email to acknowledge AAPI Heritage or Hispanic Heritage Month). Uncomfortable and hostile work environment, staff overworked and underpaid. What should be a great organization is hobbled by out of touch, culturally and racially homogeneous leadership with no perspective.
