Constant turnover, Machiavellian politics, totally unhealthy environment. Leadership is often emotionally immature/volatile, unprofessional, and don't understand what the more technical work actually involves, so it *will* get pinned on you if you don't make impossible things magically happen. Tiny office packed to the gills - loud, no ability to concentrate, no respect for space - expect to be interrupted constantly. Much of the leadership (Exhibitions, Communications and Finance aside) are viscous, even to each other, and have awful attitudes. President can be very supportive personally, but doesn't seem to care that those under her are mistreating their reports and barely holding operations together. No training, no documentation, no formal review process - and priorities are utterly off-base and inconsistent. The top priority is whatever your boss is currently stressing about. Don't plan to make any meaningful changes; they want things to stay the way they are, even when they don't work and cost time, money and accuracy. Hourly employees have higher time expectations than most salaried employees have elsewhere; they say working "occasional" events is required, but that means upwards of 3-4 a month, and often you're asked to come in late on regular days to avoid overtime. No support or appreciation. They're hemorrhaging talented people in support positions because they insist on an unnecessarily stressful environment and won't listen to any criticism (and many of them go on to much better positions, which should tell you something). The worst part is the utter lack of communication. Nobody seems to know how to talk to each other either effectively or humanely.
