Outdated operating model

Pros

Organization follows one of the most interesting and dynamic regions in the world. Good work life balance.

Cons

It's difficult to fund raise for an organization that has limited direct impact. Its operating model was developed in the 1950s and seems to have changed little since then.

Pros

Smart and engaged mid-level staff

Cons

Not sure where to begin, but the leadership was highly fractured and some flat out incompetent.

Pros

Dedicated and knowledgeable staff; wide and influential network of partners and supporters. Focus issues and topics always on trend of immediate relevance to world events.

Cons

Increasingly weak senior leadership, lacking sorely both in organizational management skills as well as in Asia expertise. Organization-wide disinterest in professional development, rare advancement opportunities for talented staff that leads to high turn-over.
