Pros

Decent salary, some nice folks to work with. Depending on which team you're in, it might be laid back. Some managers help people with work/life balance. That's all.

Cons

Too many. 1. Constant lay offs. Executive team just doesn't have a long term plan and makes decisions based on quarterly results. They make U-turns every 6 months if not even more frequently. As an example, year ago, they said they want to invest more in R & D. They hired a lot of new guys. Less than year after, they decided to cut funding for R & D, hoping that new acquisitions will help. Laid off a great number of senior developers, some of them spent over 15 years in the company, as well as some of recently hired people. 2. Due to these lay offs, fear is all over the place. Many of those that survived lay offs now look for other jobs and can't wait to run away. Smarter guys left earlier, and some of them even started working for companies that are not that great when it comes to salary or the outlook. That speaks volumes. 3. On the other hand, executives keep trying to convince employees that everything is fine and that they have a clear vision how to make Aspect successful company, but it just annoys people. The reality is completely different. 4. If you don't lose your job, you might get transferred to position that is not even remotely related to your experience, skills or to what you want to do. 5. There is no such thing like bonus. You can forget about it. 6. Too many processes that just complicate main job, and these processes include tools that are just a pain. 7. HR is terrible: unresponsive, irresponsible, unprofessional, unreliable. 8. There are no career opportunities. 9. When it comes to culture, now they are trying to apply the culture from much smaller company they recently acquired. For me, joining Aspect was a terrible mistake ! It was a move that jeopardized my career without any real or long term benefit.

Pros

In the past there have been many opportunities to engage in new technology and work hard in a very challenging and fast paced environment.

Cons

Things are ever changing organizationally, lacking a clear roadmap and discipline to stick to a vision and do what it takes to execute to plan. When projects are felt to be near enough to completion to be able to get some kind of product release out the door there are layoffs, and the quality of the software suffers accordingly. This issue is the essence of the problem at Aspect, and why the loss of customers is occuring, and likely will continue to do so. As a software company the people are the life blood of the company, but the Golden Gate owners have no loyalty or gratitude towards the employees. It is very difficult to move forward with your career as the company keeps employees pigeon holed and prefers to hire new people from outside of the company. The current executive team, in place now for 18 months is tightly linked to the private owners of the company who remain the same - hence there really is no change fundamentally in how Aspect is managed in spite of the marketing and sloganeering saying otherwise. The focus of pursuing growth is on merger/acquisitions of other companies which seem to be distressed and undervalued. The successful integration of the products from the M&As is hit or miss, without any tangible positive impact on the bottom line. To be honest, I am happy to no longer be with this company.

Pros

Short commute, work hour flexibility, some nice people

Cons

Worked for the company for more than a decade, it consists of constant layoffs, merges, re-orgs, stagnant pay, zero incentives, eventually kick out all the long-time employees who have made crucial contributions to the growth of the company at some point.
