Motivating and Dynamic Work Environment

Pros

Aspen has been a great company to work for. It is motivating to be surrounded by so many experts in their fields, it pushes you to be the best you can be. The work is constantly changing so it never feels dull. Even though there are a few offices across the west coast, the company feels like one big team and the communication between offices is excellent.

Cons

Since consulting can be a fast-paced environment, you have to be ready to work hard and be flexible with your schedule.

Pros

Aspen provides a great work environment, including a truly team-spirited approach to all work products to provide the highest-quality to the clients. Benefits (vacation time, 401K, etc.) are fairly standard, but the intangible perks make for a less stressful, healthier work-life balance, such as flexible work schedules, and work-at-home opportunities (as needed, with supervisor approval). Projects over the years have all been interesting and varied greatly. Each client has different needs and expectations, which keeps the work challenging and interesting. While Aspen started as a small business it has grown into what I would consider a medium-sized company, which maintains the attitude of a small business treating its employees as “family”. The president and executive board have the best interests of the company and its employees in mind as they navigate the consulting cycles.

Cons

The headquarters are on the outskirts of LA County, so depending on where you live it could be a painful commute. Opportunities for mid-level advancement can be somewhat challenging. Aspen has many employees with over 15 years of experience and a tendency to go after larger, more controversial projects, such that the mentality is to generally go with the more seasoned employees to ensure a “win” for the company. One must try to create their own opportunities, which can be difficult at times.
