Pros

Not a lot to talk about. But you will love your customers and the work if you’re interested in operational technology software.

Cons

The company is becoming more of a dictatorship with orders coming straight from the CEO who seems completely out of touch with how employees at the grassroots level feel. The direct managers have lost all their power. Every decision has to be taken to the top and then decisions are taken. They’ve implemented a very strict hybrid work policy, and they record badge taps and also you have to report your work location in their HR tool. Extreme micromanagement. Also, when people ask them about this openly in the town halls, the response is that we spend a lot of money on office rental space so you have to come. Another time when somebody asked the CEO and he feels that it is less sustainable to drive to the office everyday, the CEO said that “buy a Tesla”… which is so insensitive. When somebody asks him that he can work as productively from home as from the office, his reply is that it’s not about productivity at all. It’s all about “quality” of work. Which makes me think that you can be as unproductive as you want as long as you’re working from the office. It doesn’t matter at all to him that 10 people around you could be shouting on their microphones all in meetings around the world. You could have taken the meeting from anywhere but you drive 40 minutes first to the office to take that meeting with people shouting all around you in their own meetings. The bonus each year is a joke! You would never get as much as you’re promised. The salary is much below market rates. If you are an immigrant that needs sponsorship for green card, you’d have to pay all the costs out of your pocket. The office cupcakes or the parties or team building activities have all stopped. AspenTech has killed the OSI culture.

Pros

Most of the people at Aspen are really nice to work with. Pay is pretty good. Aspen is regarded as the best in class in many areas of software that they sell into, so there is some prestige in working here if you are in the energy industry and are familiar with Aspen's software.

Cons

The CEO simply does not care about the employees. Not only is there a mandatory 3/2 hybrid work policy (in office Tues/Wed/Thurs every week if you are <50 miles from an office), and now you literally have to check in every week in Workday to say where you are working from every single day. It's total micromanagement insanity. When asked on a recent all-hands call about employee concerns with sustainability due to all the driving the new policy required, he responded with, 'Hey, if you are worried about sustainability, go buy a Tesla.' He said he had 6 pages of questions submitted about the 3/2 policy and then ignored and didn't address any of them and basically said we're doing this no matter what you say. This is what 'listening to employee concerns' looks like at Aspen. I expect a lot of employees to leave and a lot of future delays and failure to meet milestones. I know of a handful of people who have already told me they are looking elsewhere and so am I. Aside from asinine policies that don't fix anything, the benefits are really middle of the road and the bonus system does NOT pay anything close to your 'potential' bonus. The mandatory hybrid model ends up costing employees a lot of extra expenses so keep that in mind before applying.

Pros

People are good, had very positive experiences with co workers. Recession resistant industry.

Cons

Ceo doesn't care about employees, more just looking good. Worked at OSII before acquisition, afterwords Antonio forced a 3/2 policy with 1 weeks notice, everyone (developers at least) had been working remote full time for years. Salary is not very competitive, but not bad.
