Pros

It's a company that does very well, so they are unlikely to have large sclae layoffs in the forseeable future. Products which customers find very hard to do without.

Cons

It can be a tough working enviroment. People do not always work well with each other. Limited growth opportunities.

AspenTech Response

We have a fast paced and high performing culture at AspenTech. What has been lacking, until recently, was an environment that encouraged collaboration among teams and a personal connection between employees and the company. Led by our new CEO, we have rolled out a number of initiatives designed to build stronger collaboration around the company. These range from the business level, such as cross-functional Extended Leadership Teams, to support and funding of fun events in and outside of the company.

Pros

Stable, financially sound, focused. Smart people, good teamwork in the ranks. Proven value proposition of saving customers $Ms with their software. Marquis-name customers who are willing to speak on company's behalf. Great token-based subscription model.

Cons

It's about the numbers, not the people. For example, telecommuting is strictly forbidden. Last year HR issued a policy stating that in the event of a snowstorm employees who did not want to risk the commute must take a personal day or vacation day, unless a state of emergency had been called.. // Expectation that you will sacrifice your personal time on a regular basis, no comp time considered. Last year it was mandated that no vacation could be taken during Christmas and New Year's due to a major project being wrapped up, but also the planned vacation time that was cancelled could be carried over into the following year.
