Work/Life Balance is a Big Issue

Pros

Overall the people are nice with great experience. Decent discount and benefits. They used to do nice things for corporate team - food trucks, etc. but the frequency became less and less over time. Gym on premises, free fitness classes offered.

Cons

Management expects many corporate associates to work 7 days a week. Not unusual to get emails and texts over the weekend or on vacation with the expectation they are answered immediately. Having a meeting scheduled for 5:00 or 6:00 pm is very common. Company lacks the proper staffing to allow any work/life balance for many salaried roles. It prevents many employees from having appropriate family time at home. No security on premises in evening when people are walking out to car alone. Very crowded work spaces with multiple people in one small closed in office.

It is Worse than you can ever imagine

Pros

Let me get back to you when I can think of one...

Cons

The company is a complete mess. It is a "high-growth" company that is all about selling the At Home vision to Wall Street. No one at the Home Office spends time in the stores, they have had major inventory issues for a long time that no one can solve (or even acknowledge they exist) and they preach values with the Home Office enjoying the cushy perks while setting higher & even more unrealistic expectations on the field. The home office continues to pile on more & more workload onto the stores with a complete lack of respect for their low payroll model. How the CEO and the company score on Glassdoor are this high (although terrible) is a mystery. Wall Street is starting to see past leaderships polished talking points, recognized the dysfunction, and has trashed their stock accordingly. At Homes demise won't be caused by the RetailApocalypse, this will be a self-inflicted wound. Move over Sears, Kmart, Payless & Toys R Us and make room for At Home.

Pros

25% employee discount...that’s it, nothing else

Cons

Low pay. $9-$10/hour on avg when other retailers pay way more. Understaffed. Never enough employees for the enormity of the store. Do we really need that much wall art and throw pillows?? Customers think that there’s an employee for each “department” when you’re lucky to have 3-4 people closing on any given night. Sales People: for this to be a self serve store, there’s constant pressure to engage customers and get them to buy the bigger ticket items, sign up for Insider Perks and the store credit card. All of the customer engagement takes away significant time that could be spent trying to make the store look presentable. It’s always a constant chase to minimize reshops and putting the store back together after a customer rush. Customers: they shop like someone let a toddler loose inside of the store. Never putting anything back on the shelf, let alone where they got it. Most of the damages our products endure are from customers or their kids. They’ll legit break something and hide it on the shelf for us to discover at some point. Closing staff vs day crew: the closing staff is expected to hand over a clean and ready to go store to the morning crew, but the day staff does not return the favor. At a minimum there should be a midday bathroom check for cleanliness and supplies. Perhaps sweep the departments during the day when most customers are at work, not in the evenings when they’re all off from work coming in to shop. Coupons: Offer the 10% off welcome coupon the minute they sign up and offer other opportunities for coupons. They aren’t interested in the store card and they want a discount. If you want them to come back and spend money, give them an incentive.
