Pros

nothing at all...its just a job with a paycheck and they treat you as a number. nothing more.

Cons

Worst retailer that I have ever worked for. Upper management doesn't care about their employees. They only care about cutting cost. Very cheap company...I had asked for them to fix the floors because there was a couple of holes where customers could potential trip and get hurt---they sent me a bag of concert to do it myself. They give us more and more work to do at the same time, they cut our hours, so the managers have to make up the difference and work sometimes 12 hours per day 6 days to 7 days a week. Not only that, we are way under paid!! They really don't care about their people, i had work for them 3 years and have earned about 3 weeks of vacation pay....they refuse to pay it to me after I left. Again, they don't care about its people. They were happy when they told the store that we have to try to hit our goal of 100% turnover rate-----100%!! that was their target because a lot of store were hitting 180% or more. They talk big about taking care of their people and in reality they don't care. If you are thinking about working here....you need to just run as fast as you can away from them. They are trying to grow as fast as they can, then sell the company. Ill be surprised it they last another 5 to 10 years. Management makes horrible decisions all the time and they just don't care about you at all. You have no life outside of work if you work here.

Pros

Very little supervision from the District Manager or anyone from corporate.

Cons

The daily routines are run through various emails that come from many different corporate sources. Often the emails were conflicting and hostile in tone. There is no written operational guideline to follow. It was a difficult place to keep a good attitude, field support is disconnected from the stores and generally ask for photos of projects instead of visiting the stores. There are no planograms so every item that comes in gets "flexed" into the shelves. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. Google GardenRidge and you will see many horror stories.

Pros

The merchandising individuals who work there from director level down are amazing people. You will be surrounded by support from your peers.

Cons

At the Feb 2023 Merch Meeting a recently promoted individual asked for more training in a Q&A session. Since at the time there was little to no training in any merchandising roles. Unless you had a boss who was willing to take out time to train the employee, this employee did not have that. The question was professional and required vulnerability and courage to ask for support in her role. When asking for additional support the CMO met her with this response “are you saying you are regretting your promotion?” Followed by slight laughter… infront of the entire 150+ merchandising department. To say his response was disgusting would be an understatement. The sad part about this is, this disrespect was normal behavior from him. Thankfully, it is rumored that he has been let go recently. However, the rest of the panel that tolerated that behavior is still employed. When this employee left the company due to this interaction, many had to be reminded of this interaction because disrespect like this was so normalized. However, at the time, even with this employee stated the reason she was leaving…. still not a single VP on that panel spoke to her prior to leaving, or even apologized for their part in tolerating it. They lost a good employee, like they have many over the years due to this tolerance of disrespect. Hopefully with him allegedly leaving, it will drastically change the culture. Since the individuals who work there deserve better.
