Pros

Good pay and good benefits

Cons

This company changed it's name from Garden Ridge to At Home a year and a half ago. The problem is the only thing that changed was the name. The culture is the same as it was before. The vision of the CEO is not the vision that is adhered to by people below him. The HR department allows and tolerates lies and half truth's at the DM level. This company has the potential to be an outstanding company BUT will never reach that level as long as there are still members of the old regime in charge. Don't take my word for it do your own investigating. Talk to a Store Director in confidence before coming on board. There is a reason this company scores so poorly on Glassdoor. At Home is nothing more than Garden Ridge in sheep's clothing. Also there is almost zero percent chance to promote beyond management level as they have a pitiful internal training program. Buyer beware!

Pros

I got to meet great people (associates). 25% discounts. Thats it.

Cons

Where to start??! Interview was basically 3 mins, they were focused on my AVAILABILTY, not on my skills. Extremely low pay for all the work you do. They send me to the ‘floor’ to start cleaning aisles and scan stuff 5 mins after i clocked in. Manager didnt even know it was my first day when i got there, introduced me to another manager and this one rolled her eyes!! They dont give you any training, no one ever explain how the company works, i never got told about how i was getting pay, time off, breaks, etc...you learn by just looking what other people is doing. Manager is constantly checking on you every 15 mins its annoying. You will be asked to learn and DO ANYTHING, stockings shelves, registers, freight, to even CLEAN BATHROOMS because they have NO JANITORS. All these for $9 an hr!! They will make you feel like a slave. Do NOT apply for a job for this company unless you are in absolutely need of money and have no choice. Even McDonalds and Walmart pay more!! There is no room for growth, its very discouraging and depressive.

Pros

The vision of the CEO is a good one.

Cons

The company's culture is dis-functional at best.. The message from the home office is one of "Doing the Right Thing", however the store operations group does just the opposite. Consistently using unprofessional tactics to bully and intimidate store management. The stores are not given the resources to run the properly. When converted from Garden Ridge to At Home they spoke of leaving behind the culture and putting customer and associates first. They have never been farther from that than they are right now. The only thing that seems to be important to District Managers and above is how many pallets of freight did you get done today. Store conditions and employee relations are an after thought. In 20 years of retail management I have never seen a company manage their assets in a less professional and more disorganized manner from their Human Resource dept down.
