Pros

I've worked remotely for Atlassian for over 4 years and enjoyed (almost!) every day of it. The company's leadership genuinely cares for their employees and customers. The company is full of very talented folk across job functions; it's a joy to work alongside them. ’Open company’ is not just a value on paper, it's lived out. Everyone—right up to the founders—is very approachable and friendly. Information is shared well. There are loads of opportunities to grow and extend your influence. It's up to you to take them! Every line manager I've had been kind, sensible and caring. Trust is a big deal — there's no micro-management here — but the flipside is that you need to ensure you live up to that trust. There are lots of opportunities to innovate and improve things. Quartly ShipIts (hackathons) are a great example of this — time to work on whatever you think would be valuable. And plenty of ShipIt projects become actual features and products.

Cons

As with any software that's been around for a while, there is legacy to deal with. But there is always an openness to improve things, and invest in paying down tech debt, etc. You just might need to push for it a bit, against the tide of new product development. As a company that's distributed across the world, you'll need to be willing to be flexible with times of day you work. That's not a problem if you're willing, but could be a blocker for some. There's no expectation that you're always available, but the occasional late or early call might be needed for effective collaboration.
